I spotted at the weekend that some fool had drawn a swastika on a big UKIP billboard in Croyde.
Given the recent swastika vandalism in Barnstaple it's hard to say if this daubing, by persons as yet unknown, was a vote of support or opposition for the UKIP man. Either way, it was an inaccurate comment.
The election billboards and posters are proliferating all over North Devon (lots for Braunton man Mark Cann, Labour, in not-very-Labour Braunton). UKIP seem to have persuaded a fair few landowners/farmers to put huge boards by the side of roads.
Of course this is the year, with daft Internet campaigns galore, that election advertising is in open season for satirists and michief-makers. Already we've had North Devon Lib Dem MP Nick Harvey (initials NH) noting, wryly, the Tory "NH Yes" posters...
I remember the Conservatives election slogan in 2005 "are you thinking what we're thinking?" was widely defaced with responses along the lines of "no". Well, they did ask, you might say...
Meanwhile, tomorrow is the deadline for applications for postal votes and for candidate nominations. Wonder if there will be any last minute surprises?
I've completed my lengthy interviews with all the candidates and the results will start appearing soon.
